I opened a café with my father last year. It plays a role as a place that not only offers food and beverages, but also a place where people in the local community can interact. I wanted to make such a place and so we opened the café.

When I was a child, many events for local people were held, like a summer festival. These events were organized by the government. I was able to make many friends, and I felt a connection with the local community there. But recently these opportunities have decreased due to the coronavirus. So, there are many people who feel lonely, for example, people who moved there recently, children and elderly people. I want to provide a place that enables people to feel a connection with the local community, and I hope the café will help residents think they want to keep living in this area.

There are two ways I try to make this café a “place for cultural exchange”. The first way is I constructed a trailer and provided outdoor seating. Because of this, customers can feel a sense of unity with the local surroundings and feel the brilliance of nature. As a result, this enabled children, people with their dogs and people with their babies to feel comfortable entering. The second way to promote cultural exchange is to allow the space to be reserved for events, such as seminars - parenting seminars, nursing seminars, English conversation seminars, and so on. By allowing events at our cafe, people who share similar challenges and hobbies can meet each other.

It has been a year since I opened the café. I feel most happy when I read customer feedback, such as “Thanks to the café, I have started liking this area more!”
I realized that the fun and charm of the area can grow greatly by providing a place for people to gather and get to know each other. I also learned the importance of creating something new and valuable through this experience.

I hope the café can continue to contribute to regional revitalization as “A café that connects the local community”.

私は昨年⽗とカフェを開業しました。ただ飲⾷をする場としてではなく、「⼈と交流でき、地域とのつながりを感じることができる」、そんな場所を作りたいと考え開業しました。私が幼い頃は、町内会や地域のイベントが盛んに⾏われていました。季節ごとに⼦供から⼤⼈まで楽しむことができる⾏事が開催されており、私⾃⾝そこで友達を作って、地域・⼈とのつながりを感じていました。ですが現在ではコロナ禍の影響もあり、地域での交流が途絶えつつあります。新しく引っ越してきた⼈や⼦供、その親御さんは地域に馴染めず、⼼細いと感じている⼈が多くいます。そんな⽅々が地域とのつながりを感じられ、ずっとこの場所に住み続けたい、と思うきっかけになるような場を提供したい、と考えています。
「交流の場」として⾏っていることは主に⼆点あります。⼀点⽬は地域との⼀体感を感じられ、⾃然の豊かさを活⽤できるオープンカフェにしたことです。その結果、⽝を連れたお客さまや⼦供が気軽に来店できることに繋がりました。⼆点⽬は⼦育て・介護・英会話などのオープンセミナーの場として場所を貸し出していることです。オープンセミナーを開催することで共通の趣味や悩みを抱えている⼈がこの場を通して出会えると考えるからです。
開業して約⼀年が経ちましたが、お客さまに「このカフェができてこの地域をより好きになった」と⾔われることが⼀番の成果だと感じています。
カフェを開業する、この経験からひとつの場所を提供することでその地域の魅⼒が⼤きくなることの楽しさ、そして新しく価値を創造することの⼤切さを学ぶことができました。
また、今後も「地域とつながるカフェ」として地域活性化に貢献できれば、と思っています。
