[University]Faculty of Home Economics

Jinzo Naruse (the university’s founder) believed that studying the human sciences offered new perspectives on life that would help students to develop into valuable contributors to society.  Our University was the first to adopt a scientific approach towards the home environment.

The Faculty of Human Sciences and Design consists of five departments: Child Studies, Food and Nutrition, Housing and Architecture, Clothing, and Social and Family Economy.

Students in this Faculty use concepts from the humanities and the natural and social sciences to explore daily life.  This helps them to reflect upon how they might improve their own lives and make a fuller contribution to society.  Students engage in a broad, deep, multi-faceted exploration of the household.
