Department of English

The aims of the curriculum of the Department of English are to deepen the knowledge of the literatures, language, cultures, and societies of English-speaking countries, and to develop an ability to grasp the self and the world in a wide perspective. The courses are divided into two groups: one group is to improve English language proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with special emphasis on logical expository writing skills, and the other includes core courses in English and American literature, British cultural studies, linguistics, and American studies, with courses in related fields such as Ancient Greek, Latin, comparative literature, the Bible, Greek mythology, translation of literary works, and business English.
